Okay, maybe I am naive about church politics, but I have never heard of church members voting a member out of a church. That is the confounding circumstance of 103 year old, Genora Biggs, a former member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Elberton, GA. Yes, I said 103 YEARS OLD. Before I go any further, you have to ask yourself, what in the world can a 103 year old lady do so horribly, to get voted out of a church? Well, she disagreed with the pastor’s style of preaching. Apparently, she felt that pastor Reverend Tim Matttox wanted to “change” the denomination of the church from Baptist to that of a holiness church. Not quite sure what she means by that but it doesn’t sound overly threatening. Nonetheless, one too many folks weren’t feeling Miss Genora’s sentiment, so they voted her out like they were on “Survivor” or something. Miss Genora would not go out without a fight though! She still came to church on Sunday (because who takes a church banishment seriously??) , and the good ol’ pastor Reverend called the police on her…SMH. The police said they couldn’t do anything about it because church is a public place. I can’t take this scenario seriously.
Granted, I don’t know all of the back story but I don’t need to when the supposed offender is 103 years old. Is it wrong to question your pastor? Maybe I’m missing a scripture about that. This is foolishness and an embarrassment to the purpose of church. I thought church was open to the community! And if nothing else, respect your elders! SMH
What do you think? Did Ms. Genora deserve to be dismissed from the congregation for disagreeing with the church pastor?
