*** Update Friday, October 16, 2016: We don’t know exactly what this means, as far as lasting brain damage or other sequelae are concerned, but Lamar Odom is conscious and breathing on his own with the aid of a breathing mask, in a Las Vegas hospital, a ESPN reports. This is great news for Lamar Odom fans, compared to the alternative outcome that most had feared.
(TT) – Lamar Odom was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada, and rushed to a hospital. No one really knows his condition as of this moment, but can only speculate. “I hope and pray that he’s going to be okay but it doesn’t sound that way,” according to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, and are probably the sentiments of most basketball fans.
When I heard the news I was distraught. How could someone so good at basketball and someone so kind go so wrong?Even though the Kardashian show did to TV what soldier boy did to rap, it depicted how great of a person he was (the few times I did watch). For years I thought he was great, but could be so much better. After Stephen A. highlighted that he loved being a LA Laker so much it started to make a little more sense. I think he was just so happy playing basketball in LA he wanted to be stuck in time.
But that was an impossible dream for Lamar Odom.
For a second tier player, with top tier talent, basketball is a business- few players have their choice of where they are going play. Once LA let him go, he was devastated. Stephen A. stated that he was crying on the air, due to the devastation. He absolutely loved being a LA Laker, and after he was let go drug use, partying non-stop affected his entire life- including his marriage to Khloe Kardashian. He was never able to get back to being himself. It seemed like being an LA Laker was an addiction before he had other addictions.
The 35-year-old Odom, who last played in the NBA in 2013, arrived on Saturday at the Love Ranch in Crystal, Nev., about a 90-minute drive from Las Vegas. Brothel owner Dennis Hof told the Associated Press that Odom “just wanted to get away, have a good time and relax,” and that he seemed to be “happy.” Hof also told the Los Angeles Times that Odom appeared “somber” on Sunday, but was in good spirits otherwise.
Enfin, where did it all go wrong for Lamar Odom? Was it just being abandoned by the LA Lakers? Was he ill-fated when he married a Kardashian? Who knows, but when a person goes down a path, for whatever reason(s), sometimes he or she thinks it’s a detour to an unfair life. Sometimes the detour is really quicksand. Stressors are consuming, but
we need to find a positive way to deal with them.
